How Do Heel Grounders Work?
Heel grounders connect the person wearing them to ground via a proper floor mat or flooring material. Wearing the conductive ribbon inside the shoe or sock assures proper electrical contact with the user. The ribbon connects to the conductive rubber to complete the circuit between the operator and the static controlled floor or mat. Heel grounders should be worn on both feet to provide consistent grounding while in motion.
Cleaning Heel Grounders
Heel grounders are used to ground static charges. Dirt generally provides an insulative layer adversely effecting reliability of the heel grounders. For proper operation, the heel grounder and the conductive strip must be kept clean. The rubber portion of the heel grounder should be cleaned using an antistatic surface and mat cleaner. An alternative would be to clean using plain water or a mix of 80/20 water/isopropyl alcohol for tougher stains. Please perform a test wash and evaluate the results with an esd footwear tester.
